Springdale National School

Springdale

Springdale National School has been the parish school for the parishes of All Saints' Raheny and St. John's Coolock since the amalgamation of Raheny Parochial, Raheny Infant and Coolock Parochial Schools in 1887. In fact the individual histories of these amalgamated schools stretch back as far as 1726.

The school occupied many of the historic buildings around the centre of Raheny Village over the years, before finally settling in its current location at the junction of Springdale and Lough Derg Roads in 1962. Originally known as Edenmore National School, the name was changed to avoid confusion with the new national schools being built in the large Edenmore estate.

In 1999 an application was made to demolish then build a new school. Permission was granted and in 2010 Archbishop John Neill opened the new school. The school has six classrooms with the library being used as a seventh. Once building work is completed it will have:

The school owes a huge debt to all the families, both past and present, who have contributed to the necessary fund raising activities which have part funded this beautiful, bright, fully equipped new building.

The number of school staff has risen significantly in recent years. The staff now consists of a Principal, seven class teachers, one full and one part time resource teacher, one full and one part time learning support teacher, four Special Needs Assistants, a secretary and a caretaker. It's a far cry from the two teacher school that the site was originally acquired for!.

As well as covering the full Primary School Curriculum, the school provides a very broad education for the pupils. We encourage the students to try as many things as possible and to make the most of their many talents. Their is a great emphasis on sport, art, music, citizenship and on the environment. The school is proud supporter of numerous charities, both national and international.

Above all Springdale is a family. Our vibrant school community is welcoming and inclusive. Our aim is to help our students to achieve to the best of their potential and to be happy doing it.
