Mothers' Union

Mothers' Union

The Mothers' Union is a Christian organisation which promotes the well-being of families worldwide. Mothers' Union in Ireland is part of a membership of 4 million in 83 countries.

Mothers' Union was first started in England by Mary Sumner in 1876. The first Branch in Ireland was founded in 1887 here in Raheny by Annabella Hayes wife of the then Rector Canon F. C. Hayes. The organisation gradually spread throughout Ireland and in July 1901 Mary Sumner met members during a visit to the country.

In 2002 members from our neighbouring parish of St. John's Coolock joined with us and we are now known as Raheny with Coolock Mothers' Union.

We meet in All Saints' Hall on the first Monday of the month from September to May unless otherwise announced. Included in our programme are interesting talk, fun evenings, outings and attending inspiring church services throughout the Dublin and Glendalough Dioceses. Each Christmas we fill shoeboxes with presents for the children of Darndale Creche.
